AVA FACTS

What does Avaricious Mean?

Back when Avaricious was trying to come up with a "cool" name for the band we had to ask ourselves... "What are we all about?" The answer - We Want It All Baby! We got one foot in the Atlantic, one in the Pacific and we want everything in between! Hence the name AVARICIOUS.

The band completely formed back in January of 2010 and no one's been able to stop us yet! We are a fairly newborn band with an adult attitude and we look forward to jammin in the Omaha music scene in 2011!! Rock on with ya bad self! -Peace

Band Member Biographies

Page 1

Lead singer and front man Denny Cool has been entertaining crowds since age 5. Denny took many years off from the band lifestyle to do stints in live theatre. Denny also is a co-front-man for the all original band, Steve Villamonte and the 808 Band. Denny says "My heart is still with 70's rock, though 80's will always have a soft spot. Any time I can sing a song, and at least one person in the crowd gets something out of it, it's a success!"

Chrystal Gard

Chrystal Gard got her start in vocals as the lead firefly in third grade with "This Little Light of Mine". (It should be noted that it was Mrs. West, the third grade teacher, who is responsible for Chrystal's addiction to pretty shoes!) There was the usual high school stuff including a stint as Glenda, the good witch, possibly a career highlight! Adult life brought several years of solo and group work within the church. She was referred to in one her first groups as "one of the church ladies". (Some find this unlikely but she has witnesses!) Chrystal also spent a couple of years with "Taxi Driver" and did some work with a fun band called "Tastes Like Chicken".

Chalee George

She may be short and little, but she's loud and fiesty!

Chalee George has been singing since she was old enough to fumble words out of her mouth! The first recording she has is singing "He's a Tramp" at age 5 on her mom's cassette recorder!

In 2004 she moved back from a 3 yr jaunt in California and immediately started her own original band, "Chalee." When her co-writer had twins and left the band, she took a small break to become a massage therapist and now in addition to being 1 of the 3 front singers for Avaricious, she runs her own business doing massage therapy and making home-made soap! Marc Golden

Born the son of a poor share-cropper, Marc Golden understood what it meant to work hard. His first bass was a washtub with a broom handle and some kite string. Marc now plays a four string Rickenbacker because he's not sure what to do with a five string Rickenbacker. His influences are Engelbert Humperdinck and Will Hung. Marc is now helping with the backbone of Avaricious.

Daniel Crawford

Since the age of 12, Dennis Roy has picked up music from family and friends that were also musicians. In high school he performed in a local rock band and after graduating, moved to Southern California and continued playing in original and cover bands in the early '80s... then moved back to the Midwest and joined various bands around Omaha. After taking 10 years off for family life, got back into the local cover band scene playing lead guitar and lead vocals as a co-founder of Charmed and Dangerous, A Common Tale and Vital Signs. Now a contributing member of the Avaricious team picking up the lead guitar once again.

Keyboardist Marty Frye started his musical endeavors around the age of four by playing the family piano by ear. At age eight he heard the drums calling his name. Marty played drums in the high school Band and Jazz Ensemble, pit orchestras for area musicals, as well as in various cover and original bands in the area. He did his undergraduate and graduate studies as a percussion and music education major. He started playing keys again when he was looking for a band and nobody needed a drummer, but everybody needed a keyboard player. His most recent credits include drummer for British Invasion, keyboards and co-founder of Charmed and Dangerous, A Common Tale, and Vital Signs. By day, Marty is a mild mannered high school band director who also teaches Music Theory and History.

Since the age of 10 when Rich Barmettler picked up his first pair of sticks, he's always had a great time playing drums. Jazz and rock bands in high school and college were a blast, but he set the sticks down for a stretch to concentrate on family and career. Now he's been back in the scene, and has been for a little while and is driving the beat for Avaricious.
